Jedes Jahr denken wir: „Wow, das war der beste Welt-Parkinson-Tag aller Zeiten!“, und dann kommt das nĂ€chste Jahr und die weltweite Parkinson-Gemeinschaft ĂŒbertrifft wieder einmal unsere Erwartungen. Das war auch beim Welt-Parkinson-Tag 2024 nicht anders.
Von einer Kampagne, die auf der ganzen Welt fĂŒr Schlagzeilen sorgte, bis hin zu Meilenstein-Events, erfolgreichen Spendenaktionen und Parkinson-Gemeinschaften, die zusammenkamen, um Musik, Sport und Tanz zu genieĂen – hier sind unsere globalen Highlights vom Welt-Parkinson-Tag 2024:
Worldwide
Wahrzeichen fĂŒr Parkinson beleuchten
Zum Welt-Parkinson-Tag wurden wieder wunderschöne GebĂ€ude auf der ganzen Welt beleuchtet, und 2024 gab es eine Reihe von Farben, um das Bewusstsein fĂŒr Parkinson zu schĂ€rfen: GroĂbritannien, die USA, Italien und Kanada leuchteten blau, in Spanien war es rot, Australien fĂ€rbte seine Wahrzeichen lila und in DĂ€nemark war es grĂŒn.

2. The âSit to Standâ challenge
Once again Stand Up To Parkinsonâs hosted a global exercise challenge, encouraging people around the world to collectively complete 2 million âsit to standâ exercises for Parkinsonâs awareness.

3. Parkinsonâs Europe launches Summer Of Sport
We were blown away by the response to our new video showing the power of everyday people with Parkinsonâs taking on a new sport and finding a sporting community they can enjoy belonging to. Watch the video below and find out more about whatâs coming up in the Summer of Sport.

4. The Movers and Shakers take their Parky Charter to the UK Prime Minister
After amassing over 20,000 signatures on a petition supporting their Parky Charter, the hosts of the Movers and Shakers podcast (including TV presenters Jeremy Paxman and Rory Cellan-Jones, and comedy writer Paul Mayhew-Archer) presented the charter to 10 Downing Street, home of the UK Prime Minister:
5. Parkinsonâs UK takes over Picadilly Circus
After a week-long digital campaign called There Isnât One Parkinsonâs Journey, featuring moving and enlightening videos telling the stories of a range of people living with Parkinsonâs, Parkinsonâs UK then took over the Picadilly Lights billboard at Londonâs Picadilly Circus during the evening of World Parkinsonâs Day 2024 with a short film and over 100 photographs of people with Parkinsonâs:
6. Brunel University releases new Parkinsonâs psychotherapy research paper
The study investigated whether a type of psychotherapy called compassionate mind training â a form of mindfulness â could enhance the well being and quality of life of people with the condition, with results showing that the therapy helped fight against the stigma that is often felt by people with Parkinsonâs:

7. Parkinsonâs Walking Football tournament between Spain and the UK
This friendly tournament for World Parkinsonâs Day took place in Bilbao, Spain, with the Spanish side up against the England national Parkinsonâs football team:
8. FEP launches âReivindiquemos la Inteligencia Emocionalâ campaign
Launching the campaign with a moving and thought-provoking video, âReivindiquemos la Inteligencia Emocionalâ aims to encourages a more humane approach to Parkinsonâs, valuing the emotional skills we possess to tackle the condition in a more personal, empathetic way. 9. The Berlin Symphony Orchestra play at the Yuvedo Foundationâs World Parkinsonâs Day 2024 event
Wie das beeindruckende Video unten zeigt, war das Konzert der World Parkinson’s Night etwas ganz Besonderes. An der Veranstaltung nahm auch der deutsche Gesundheitsminister Karl Lauterbach teil.

In this video series, a chef, an expert and a member of the public sit down together over a meal to discuss Parkinsonâs, encouraging a wider conversation on the condition throughout Portugal, removing stigma, and sharing delicious recipes from Portuguese chefs at the same time! 13. Parkinson Verenigingâs annual World Parkinsonâs Day conference
Highlights of this event included a poem read by Peter van den Berg, who lives with Parkinsonâs (you can read the poem here), and Dutch neurology professor Bas Bloem and ParkinsonNetâs Marten Munneke both receiving a prestigious âkoninklijke onderscheidingâ (royal decoration) award.

The Australian organisationâs fundraising activities on World Parkinsonâs Day took their monthly total donations so far to over $150,000.

19. Cure Parkinsonâs NZ releases feature-length documentary â1 in 37â
Telling the personal stories of five people living with Parkinsonâs in New Zealand, this hour-long film was released on World Parkinsonâs Day, and can be viewed in full below:

20. Milestone event takes place in Kenya
This first event of its kind was hosted at the Mama Grace Onyango Social Centre in Kisumu County, featuring experts, caregivers and people with Parkinsonâs coming together as a community to raise awareness.
